Haverhill has a population of just over 24,000 people (split with slightly more females than males) which is set to increase to 30,000 people by 2015. There are a further 98,193 people in the district area (2001 census). The most predominant age band is those aged between 30 and 44 for males, and also 30-44 for females. Within the urban area population approximately 56% of occupants are aged between 20 and 59 (2001 census).
In 2001, 56.1% of the market town population travelled less than 2km to work showing the ability of the town to provide ample employment opportunities within a close proximity to the town. At the other end of the scale, 6.5% travelled over 40km to work to areas such as Cambridge. A high proportion of Haverhill residents currently out commute to the existing southern Cambridge cluster parks thus presenting a rich seam of potential employees for any occupier coming into Haverhill from those developments.
Residential property costs in Haverhill are very competitive with the town recently featuring in the Halifax Quality of Life index as one of the top ten towns in the country offering the best value for money location for terraced properties under £150,000.
